6. excerpt from “some kind trouble” (full story in print issue)

No no no, I explain. I am here like I say to you before. I hear woman voice not my wife voice come out my wife mouth when she sleeping.

Voice tell me first time is voice of Maria Garcia and she come to tell me someone with initial R.L. kill her I have go to police and tell them. Is pretty strange. I am sit in bed listen to voice come out my wife mouth in dark have some kind accent I think is Spanish or something like that. I think is too crazy thing even though I know I read in paper is woman die small time ago name Maria Garcia. I see my wife face turn very white and her eye open like dead are walking you see in movie all the time only I am telling she is not seeing and she go back to sleep.

I don’t go to police. I think is pretty weird dream she is having. My wife is not even speak English when she is awake. Or, I think maybe she is not having dream, you know? Maybe is me having the dream. Is crazy thing, and I don’t go to police—What are they thinking about me?—but voice come back next week.

Is then I think is no dream I am having. The room is so cold I see the hot air come out my wife mouth go up. I see in the moon light coming in window. Voice say to me, Is Ronnie Logan kill me why you not go to police? I say to voice, I think I go crazy. The police think I am crazy man and put me in jail or something. Voice tell me, Please, you must go to police. Is Ronnie Logan kill me and I prove is Ronnie Logan. He take my jewelry and give to girlfriend. You tell to police, and they go find jewelry at Ronnie Logan girlfriend house, the voice say, and then is my wife waking up say, What you doing, is so cold in room? I tell her about voice come out from her mouth, and she say she dreaming all time about the horse in the west are wild running in the desert. She say I have go to police she can’t even speak English how she say these thing? She say is spirit—I think is how you say—of murder woman. So this is why I come here like I say.
